Adalah seorang gitaris Swedia, penggubah lagu, ahli berbagai macam instrumen dan pemimpin grupband. Malmsteen menjadi terkenal di era 1980-an karena keahlian teknkal dalam komposisi neo-classical metal, sering dikaitkan dengan kecepatan bermain gitar dengan nanda tinggi, skala pekikan dan skala raungan.
4 albumnya, sejak 1984 sampai dengan 1988, Rising Force, Marching Out, Trilogy, dan Odyssey, berada di top 100 untuk penjualan.
Malmsteen dilahirkan pada tanggal 30 Juni 1963 di Stockholm – Swedia, sebagai anak pertama dari keluarga pemusik berbakat. Di usia 10 tahun dia mengambil nama ibunya “Malmsten” sebagai nama keluarga, sedikit berubah menjadi “Malmsteen” dan Yngve di-inggriskan menjadi “Yngwie”.
